DescriptionFanies Island is a peaceful and very private camp located on the western shore of beautiful Lake St. Lucia. Accommodation is provided in chalets, rest-huts and camping sites. Activities include self-guided trails, bird-watching, swimming, fishing and boating. A camp popular with fishermen with a campsite affording panoramic views of the lake. Boats may be hired (without motors). The camp is not actually an island but is on the western shores of the lake overlooking a maze of reed islands through which hippo have created channels. Close to the camp are reedbeds, coastal bush, grassland and forest. The mammal population includes warthog, waterbuck and monkey. Approximately 12km along this tarred road is a turn-off to the left for Fanies (Fani's) Island. The camp is 14 km further along this gravel road. The route is well signposted.
